sculpture with styrofoam and fluorescent lights (Jason Rogenes)
via Inhabitat
Death Valley, rendered in pink Styrofoam insulation and painted white to show detail. The data was taken from a USGS topographic map, processed in custom software to a mesh, and cut on the CNC router. A few anomalies are showing up in the basin - these are due to a controller software issue. I originally thought that these were due to electrical noise triggered by the dust collector, however, the marks don’t propagate over the mountains, and the collector is on an isolated circuit. Anyway, these problems are a thing of the past - A new high end controller is on it’s way.
